Welcome
Dear Student Interested in Biomedical Sciences,
The Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical Sciences Program at Celebration High School is a rigorous honors program that begins your freshman or sophomore year. Students play the roles of biomedical professionals as they investigate and study the concepts of human medicine, physiology, genetics, microbiology, and public health. In the PLTW Biomedical Sciences (BMS) Program students learn content in the context of real-world cases by engaging in activities like investigating the death of a fictional person or dissecting a sheep’s heart. They examine the structures and interactions of human body systems and explore the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Students work collaboratively to understand and design solutions to the most pressing health challenges. The future of the biomedical sciences comes alive in this rigorous and relevant four-course sequence that prepares students to continue their studies through post-secondary education and careers. Courses in the program include Principles of Biomedical Sciences, Human Body Systems, Medical Interventions, and Biomedical Innovations. It is important to note that as a biomedical sciences student, you are still required to take additional college preparatory science classes, such as biology and chemistry.
The program challenges you to work independently with hands-on, real-world problems. PLTW’s BMS Program is an activity-, project-, and problem-based learning curriculum. The teacher’s role in Biomedical Sciences classes is more of a facilitator rather than the traditional teacher role. Activities build skills and knowledge; projects hone skills in teamwork, mathematics, science, software, time management, and communication; and problems apply knowledge and skills to complete authentic real-world work. Over the course of your four years in this program, you will develop presentation, research, writing, and lab skills necessary to be successful in college and the workforce. Students may have the opportunity to take the Biotechnology Aptitude and Competency Exam in the 3rd year of the program. This certification validates a candidate’s readiness to enter the industry by confirming core competencies needed in academic and professional settings. Is PLTW BMS right for you? Ask yourself the following questions: Are you interested in a career in the medical field after high school? Can you read a procedure, understand its meaning, and complete its tasks in order? Are you willing to work with others in order to accomplish a specific goal? Can you focus and work in a collaborative environment in order to meet assignment deadlines? If you answered “YES” to all of these questions, please apply!
To apply, please visit the 2026-27 BioMed Application. To be admitted into the program, you will be evaluated on your current state test scores and current grades in math and science classes.
